FAQ’s

Are there any loop charges or taxes?

No – unlike other Internet service providers, Segment Wireless owns its’ entire network and is not dependent on the local phone company, by-passing the local loop and related charges.

Can I add additional bandwidth to a Segment Wireless connection?

YES!  Segment Wireless is scalable bandwidth – you can easily upgrade your connection with us with just a phone call. We can usually “turn you up” in a matter of minutes. For example, if you have a 1.5 Mbps connection with us, you can very easily turn it up to 3.0 Mbps

Does Segment Wireless require a service contract?

Yes. We have 12 , 24, 36, 48 & 60 month options.

How does our system work?

We use a wireless networking system around the Pueblo, Colorado market and surrounding areas, with a fiber backbone. Segment Wireless mounts a small antenna (approximately 4” by 12”) and radio in a location near your roof and sends a signal to that antenna from one of our remote locations (Points of Presence, or “PoP’s”). An Ethernet cable is then run into your office to send your computer the signal.

How does this Wireless compare to Cable and/or DSL?

Cable is frequently oversubscribed, meaning that the cable company doesn’t use enough high-speed connections to the Internet backbone for the number of users on their system, causing Internet access to slow down. DSL is limited by distance. DSL speeds decrease the farther away from the telephone company’s CO (central office) that one is and doesn’t work at all if you are more than 18,000 feet away (about 3 to 4 miles). Wireless Internet access is one of the fastest and most reliable options available today. Typically, users experience speeds 250 times faster than most other options available. ISDN runs at a constant speed of 128 to 144 Kbps. DSL speeds vary, but top out at about 1.5 Gbps. Cable modems we have seen can go as high as 1.5 Mbps, or more if you are lucky. Wireless Internet access is more affordable than most broadband options because we primarily use the “airwaves” to transport our signal, not the Telco’s expensive copper or the cable companies’ costly, underground cable.

How fast is the service?

Bandwidth (speed) options range from 1.0 Mbps to 1.5 Gbps, and support VoIP, cloud computing, bandwidth-on-demand, wireless redundancy, VPNs, disaster recovery, and video services.

How long does the installation take?

As little as 2-3 hours once a date and time are scheduled after a site survey verifies that your location is able to receive the signal.

How many E-mail accounts do I get?

We give you up to 5 E-mails per account, more if needed upon special request.

How much bandwidth can you provide?

We can provide anything from a T1 (1.0 Mbps) to 1.5 Gbps (1500Mbps).

How quickly can you install my service?

For links between 1.0 and 3.0 Mbps, we usually install in 24 hours – and in some cases as early as the same day!  If you are interested in higher bandwidth, please contact us for an installation estimate.

Is a Segment Wireless connection secure?

Segment Wireless takes security very seriously and treats security as paramount when building out our Radio Frequency (RF) infrastructure Segment Wireless does not broadcast a frequency in 360 degrees. Segment Wireless service is considered “Line of Sight” (LOS). This means that a customer’s antenna has to be pointed at a Segment Wireless facility and the corresponding Segment Wireless antenna has to be pointed at the customer. In order to interfere or intercept a signal, a potential intruder would have to be directly in that “Line of Sight”. Even if the data could be captured and stored, the radio manufacturers utilize proprietary communication protocols at the RF layer making it virtually impossible to decipher even if the data is captured.

Is customer service available 24/7/365?

Absolutely. Our customer service team is based in Pueblo, Colorado, and is always available to help you and monitor your connection.

Is Segment Wireless a residential ISP?

No.  Segment Wireless is primarily a Business Internet Service Provider. We do not offer DSL services; our smallest connection is 1.0 Mbps. If you need business-class service at your residence, please contact our sales team.

Is Segment Wireless asynchronous? Are all connections full duplex?

Yes. Segment Wireless Internet connections are always symmetrical (bi-directional/duplex) with guaranteed bandwidth speeds, providing equal capacity for both uploads and downloads.

Is Segment Wireless satellite?

No. Segment Wireless has many locations a.k.a. PoPs in the markets we serve. Our signal is then transmitted off these rooftops and/or radio towers. A small antenna is positioned at the customer location and pointed towards the closest rooftops or towers. On average the customer is never more than 3-4 miles from one of our PoP’s.

Is Segment Wireless wireless?

Yes.  We use quality name brand wireless manufacturers such as Motorola, Mikrotik, Proxim, YDI, Orinocco, Ubiquiti, Breezecom, Smart Bridges and Trango… all of which are wireless, very reliable and extremely secure.

Is Segment Wireless’s system or quality of signal affected by weather?

No.  The Segment Wireless network is built to be redundant with the highest availability in mind. All radio signals can be affected by weather events such as rain or snow, however, when Segment Wireless designs the network, Segment Wireless engineers evaluate “link budgets” or how signal may be effected by inclement weather, combined with the distance that needs to be covered. Segment Wireless Engineers then select the appropriate frequency and transmit power to overcome any possible issues so the link has a robust “link budget”.  Thus even when the signal degrades, it is still strong enough to keep connection up and working at getting the same bandwidth or service as there was no inclement weather. Our service doesn’t interfere with other devices such as cell phones, cable TV and / or satellite systems.

What areas do you service?

We currently provide service in Pueblo, Colorado, Florida and are constantly expanding our coverage area.

What frequencies do you use?

Depending on the area, we use the 5.8, 5.4, 3.5 and 2.4 GHz spectrums.

What is the size of the equipment involved? Is it intrusive?

Segment Wireless’s equipment is generally the size of a small pizza box. The installation uses a non-penetrating mount and is not intrusive.

Why am I being asked for my Landlord information?

In order to gain access to the roof, Segment Wireless needs permission from the landlord.

Why choose Segment Wireless?

We offer FAST, reliable, symmetrical Business Broadband Internet access; the most competitive pricing for comparable service… and UNPARALLELED CUSTOMER CARE before, during and after the installation is complete. Simply put… we are not happy unless you are happy!  We offer a secure network and equivalent or faster service speeds then the competition, for less… and cater to special requests and/or needs. As we are not an 800-lb Gorilla in the high-speed internet service business (like Comcast or AT&T).  On the contrary, we are nimble and very responsive to our customers’ needs.  Cable and DSL set ups can take a week or sometimes months depending on speed requirements. Segment Wireless can be set up in 24 hours and same-day is available.  Ask your sales representative for details.

Will a Segment Wireless link interfere with other wireless signals?

No. Each customer is tuned to a specific wireless frequency, which does not interfere with cell phones, wireless networks, radio signals, etc.

Will you connect two or more of my locations with private, point-to-point connections?

Yes!  We have been able to provide several customers with VPN solutions that solve the same problem with additional benefits, including implementation of a secure MPLS network, keeping your network and data private. Please contact your sales representative for more information.
